About

Sherry Vaught has been a Mansfield resident since 1998.  She is the married mom of a grown son and she currently teaches Career Exploration to eighth graders at Mansfield Middle School. She has taught in most city schools and knows Mansfield neighborhoods. While teaching elementary school for most of the last 25 years, she has been a part of many summer programs, camps, after school initiatives and community activities. Despite not being a life long Mansfielder, she is very involved and invested in her community.

Sherry is originally from Hanover, Pennsylvania. She is the first person in her extended family to graduate from college, Penn State. She also has graduate degrees from Shippensburg University in education and Yale Divinity School in Theology. Sherry is an ordained minister. Sherry comes from working class beginnings and has never forgotten canning with her mom and aunts or backyard gardening with her dad. She has carried many of those experiences into her own family and classrooms.

After Yale, Sherry moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana to be a youth pastor. It is there that she met her husband Terry. After they tied the knot, they lived for a short time in Indiana where Sherry worked for the Area Agency on Aging. God called Terry and Sherry as CoPastors to the Mansfield First Church of the Brethren in 1997. Student loans pushed Sherry back into the classroom and she never looked back. She is a committed Christian who spends lots of time volunteering. She really enjoys helping others. Terry continues to pastor near Wooster and they both attend Paradise Church of the Brethren.

Sherry is running for mayor because she cares about our city.  Teaching has helped her be a part of many families over the past 25 years.  She wants to carry the knowledge and experience she has gained into city government.  She envisions a safe city where families are welcome.  Parks need staffing and programs.  Housing is needed – both to be built and restored.  She feels called to be a citizen-leader who encourages and creates pathways for others to be involved.  She looks forward to helping develop new spaces and  programs as well as provide vital services.  She values the economic development and public services that are the foundation of a strong Mansfield.  You can contact Sherry at sherryformayor@gmail.com or visit her on Facebook: Sherry Vaught for Mayor of Mansfield
